Ustumallagam to Horned (Black Alchemy / Russia / January 2003 a. b.)

 – Ustu, tell about the meaning of your creations.

 – With Denial Of God we try to create the most shocking and horrific music made. We deal with the darkest forms of lyrics and riffing we can create and keep a high level of music. We don't preach anything, but more like just tell some stories. It is all created in the name of Hell and horror.

 – What can you say about your last creations?

 – I must say we have developed as a band and have managed to come up with some very powerful productions and songs. Our last release was the picture-disc version of the "Robbing the Grave of the Priest" 7"EP, which was released some weeks ago, and it turned out great. The new songs we have made, which haven't been recorded yet, blow everything away. I guarantee you your worst nightmare is yet to come.

 – Tell about the members of Denial Of God.

 – Right now the band only consists of me (Ustumallagam – vocals), Azter – guitars and Isaz – bass as we have no drummer, but only a session one (R. Salskov from Koldborn). It was me and Azter who formed the band in 1991. We are brothers, but many people don't know, I think. I do Tornado magazine and will soon put out the 5-th issue. Azter is running his own label/distro called Horror Records. A really great place to obtain cool ug items. Especially vinyl. Isaz also has her other band, Feikn, but nothing has happened in that camp for long as she is busy studying to become a pathologist.

 – What Black Metal bands do you hold in respect? What music do you prefer except (Black) Metal?

 – The BM scene of today sucks and is full of wimpy children and bored teenagers who want to shock their old folks, but of course there are still some great bands like Watain, Sodomizer, Arckanum, Morbosidad, Blasphemophagher, Sabbat, Nortt and more. I guess you just have to look for the right people. I am a total Metal head and spend pretty much all my spare time with it in some way, but there are a few other names out of Metal I like too, like Misfits, GG Allin, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kraftwerk, etc., but Metal reigns my world supreme.

 – Do you know Russian Black Metal bands (for example, Blackdeath, Old Wainds, Ithdabquth Qliphoth)?

 – I have heard some of those names, but I don't care much for the scene of today really. I know Crypthowl, Dysanchely, Gothic Sky, Festerguts, Hitler, Sieged Mind and a few more. You had some great bands in the past like Aria, etc...

 – In conception of Denial Of God's creation you have the Horror themes. What is Horror in your interpretation?

 – Horror to us is everything that is waiting out there in the dark you can't see. The spirits that roam and haunt us, the forbidden books we shouldn't read, the ghosts that invade our homes etc. We write all our lyrics like small stories. Have a look and you will see.

 – What do you think about medieval times and saint inquisition?

 – I'm not much interested in them like I want to have lived back then, despite they are a must for good old horror tales and I guess many of our lyrics are based in that time. We don't use that as an image though.

 – What moment in world history is all-important for you?

 – Hm, hard to say. The second world war was interesting, but so was the whole 20-th century actually. At least for me...

 – What can you say about totalitarian regimes? Tell your opinion about some well-known regimes.

 – I'm not into such stuff. I don't give a fuck.

 – What do you think about suicide?

 – If it's weak or brave depends on the person who does it and the situation. It's just an easy way out for people who can't cope, I guess. There are so many BM bands preaching suicide and thinking they change the world with their one rehearsal demo. It has become a joke…

 – What can you say about magic and occultism?

 – That's some very interesting topics I like to study. I am mostly into horror stories and occult studies. I prefer to read about voodoo, I think. It's a very interesting thing really.

 – What can you say about idealistic philosophy (for example, about Nietzsche's philosophy)?

 – I think Nietzsche was very important for literature and philosophy and he did some interesting stuff, but I still need to study him better I must admit.

 – Your last words in this interview?

 – Thanx for your support and help. I want to greet all the ghouls out there haunting in the dark. The night is ours!
