Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum (Vision I)

Flo

Misanthropic Propaganda Productions is a young label from Belarus that proposes already some releases with a noticeable effort of quality. This compilation is MPP first release, a compilation limited to 500 ex. gathering several Black Metal bands from the international UG scene.
The pro-CDR comes in a glossy Black/White sleeve and is accompanied by a booklet presenting each band. The booklet A5 is pro-done, 12 pages with laser print and a complete biography + contact of each band, that's as well important to notice as several UG compilations don't have this quality, especially when it comes to print a correct booklet that can deserve the bands participating.
The compilation is overall dark and aggressive and gathers ambient Metal, old school Black Metal, and epic even majestic Black Metal.
The tracks are chained correctly and you get a dark and epic intro by Udumbal (Bel), 2 Black Metal songs by the band Dissimulation, and one by Obtest, both are from Lithuania and released by Ledo Takas. A majestic track by the Mexican horde of Argentum and a long epic composition of Graveland add deeper atmospheres to this release.
Faster and more brutal tracks also by Negura Bunget (Rom), Gospel of the Horns (Aus), and Denial of God (Den) that will re-release their earlier material on MC format through Misanthropic Propaganda Productions later this year.
The compilation makes you also discover the BM Russian band Ithdabquth Qliphoth, and the experimental compositions of the Russian one man band Legion666 / Black Legion of Death 666. The first Legion666 track is an eerie and cold song marked by metallic vocals and apocalyptic soundscapes, and their outro is an ambient tune that will appear in their upcoming second full length album. This compilation is also hand-numbered, recommended.

Negura magazine #4
8/10

Quite a nice compilation from this Belarus based label (this being their first official release). Almost all the bands featured are Eastern European ones and you can clearly notice that by listening to it. Dissimulation (2 tracks), Obtest (2 tracks), Graveland, Negura Bunget, Udumbal (from Belarus), Black Legion of Death 666 (also from Belarus), Ithdabquth Qliphoth (the same), all contribute to a "different" kind of compilation. The addition of Argentum, Denial of God and Gospel of the Horns only creates a bit of a variation, though it would have been nice to have an exclusive Eastern feature. As I guess not many of you ever hear of Ithdabquth Qliphoth I can tell you they perform an amateurish Extreme Black Metal, with a bad production, but with a nice feeling. Black Legion of Death 666 is present with 2 chapters, the first one of a slight Dark/Ambient music topped with the Extreme Black Metal parts of a very low quality and the second one of a plain Dark/Ambient music, a bit better than the first one. Finally, to end with the most obscure features, Udumbal performs ambient music, quite spacious and sinister. Seen as a whole the compilation has a lot of good features, as well as some not really impressive ones. It's a good start though, so I hope MPP will only go up from here on.
